Our Humble Beginnings<\/h4><\/div><\/div>\n\n

In 2021, it was amazing to raise $5,000AU to purchase the school\u2019s land.<\/span><\/p>\n

This project began and continues under the umbrella of a Registered Charity in Uganda, the\u00a0<\/span>Barnabas Legacy Children\u2019s Dream Foundation<\/b><\/a>.<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Students Move into furnished Dormitories<\/h4><\/div><\/div>\n\n

October 21st, 2025 was a historic day for\u00a0<\/span>Barnabas Legacy Children\u2019s Dream Foundation<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0as 15 children moved into the new dorm facilities at the school; 9 girls and 6 boys.<\/span><\/p>\n

In December 2025, another generous donation was made to help us fit out the second dorm with bunk beds. These were installed and ready to use by the start of Term 1 2026.<\/span><\/p>\n

A huge heartfelt\u00a0<\/span>thanks to Sue & Mike Beadle, and\u00a0<\/span>Miriam Holme<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0who generously enabled the purchase of the beds, mattresses and sheets\/pillows. Step by step the Lord has made a way for the Dream Star Care Centre to open and be able to be used.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Initial classrooms built & opened<\/h4><\/div><\/div>\n\n

A further $50,000AU was raised in 2022 to build the Nursery (Kindergarten is Nursery in Uganda) and Primary School classrooms and administration office, which opened for Term 1, February 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

BLCDF Dream Star Care Dormitories opened<\/h4><\/div><\/div>\n\n

In August 2025, at the end of our International Field Visit, we opened our two long-awaited BLCDF Dream Star Care Dormitories.<\/span><\/p>\n

These Dorms are for children that don\u2019t have families to support them. Our matron oversees the care of the children, and is our resident cook too!<\/p>\n

The girls Dormitory,\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Mama Aida House\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>was named in honour of a woman close to our hearts who left behind big legacy, including her incredible sons, Wamala Steven our CEO, Ssegane Robert our Co-Principal, and Lwanga Eli, our Coordinator ICT.<\/p>\n

The boys Dormitory\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Drua House\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>(Your home is our Home<\/em>), was named in appreciation of the generous support from the Fijians families across Australia.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Brand new Kitchen opened<\/h4><\/div><\/div>\n\n

On January 12, 2026, we celebrated the successful completion and dedicated this vital kitchen facility in a ceremony filled with joy, prayer, and thanksgiving. The kitchen begins full operations this academic term, immediately providing nutritious meals to our students. The dedication ceremony brought together a few staff, parents, and local leaders to celebrate this milestone. We prayed over the facility, toured the completed kitchen, and committed to faithful stewardship of this life-changing resource.<\/p>\n

    Nutrition transforms learning. School feeding programs improve attendance rates by up to 30%. In Uganda, 41% of children under five experience stunted growth due to malnutrition. Children who attend school hungry show decreased concentration and lower cognitive function. Now, every child receives at least one guaranteed meal daily, ensuring they have the energy and focus needed to learn effectively. Many of our students walk long distances to school without breakfast.<\/p>\n

    The School donated bricks (laid on school land by Steven), local community donated some sand, and school local contributions for term three 2025 supported workers (labour). We tried maximizing donated funds for critical materials and activities. Our purpose was to ensure that there is demonstration of excellent stewardship and strong local ownership in the project.<\/p>\n

    We extend our deepest gratitude to Mama Sue and Papa Mike from New Zealand, whose vision and commitment made this project possible. Their leadership has created lasting change for our students. In the dedication service, we honoured their faithful partnership (since the foundation of the school) and the transformative impact it will have for years to come.<\/p>\n

    We also thank Mama Queen our co-founder for her tremendous work and all supporters who gave financially, prayerfully, and practically. Your partnership equips us to nourish not just bodies, but minds and hearts.<\/p>\n

    What is the area the school is being built in?<\/h5>

    Namatovu Village, Buikwe District. It's within the same sub-county and same district as Katunda Village. There is a number of reasons why we are building in the Namtovu Village rather than Katunda village, as written about below.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Why is that area been chosen to build the school in?<\/h5>

    The location was strategically chosen to serve children from multiple surrounding communities, with access to water, electricity, and transport. The only nearby government school is in poor condition and cannot meet demand. Rather than limiting access to one village, this site allows us to support more children across the region. The land was affordable with strong potential for future expansion, enabling growth of the school and additional projects on one site. Its quiet setting, away from residential areas, also provides a safe and focused learning environment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Are there not already enough schools in the area for the children to go to?<\/h5>

    Uganda has one of the youngest populations in the world, with nearly 50% of people under the age of 18<\/strong> <\/span>, placing enormous pressure on the education system. While progress has been made, around 1 in 10 primary-aged children are still out of school<\/strong>, and many more drop out before completing their education. In this context, the area is served by only one government-aided primary school in poor condition, and a single secondary school that only reaches senior four, leaving many children without access to quality, ongoing education.<\/p>\n

    There are also limited options for Schooling in our Village. Keeping children close to home without having to travel long distances, is key.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    Not all the children are orphaned, so how does the Foundation decide whether they are going to have the child under its care?<\/h5>

    Orphaned children will be the full responsibility of the Foundation to cater for their academic needs. Non-orphaned children in a poor state will be a joint responsibility of the Foundation, school, and guardians or, connected relatives.<\/p>\n

    Non orphaned children but with carers in their families will be the responsibility of those relatives but with the school charging relatively affordable fees so as to help run the school, feeding program and cover teaching salaries.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n

    What is the difference between Government schools and private schools?<\/h5>

    Government schools are government set and aided. Government pays teaching staff in such schools and does full school maintenance and sustainability. Children can pay little or no fees, depending on whether it's in a village or town. The little pay can be for bills, teacher allowances, and catering for the minor daily school needs.<\/p>\n

    Private schools are purely private but get a license from the government. Children pay fees and each school determines what amount to pay; as they see fit. Most very good schools are private schools. The Government monitors these schools under the Ministry of Education and Sports. No funding is provided to private schools.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
